Some Notes on the Power of Prayer
As an aside: I love the format. I believe we are never closer to God than meditating on Him directly after receiving the most Holy Eucharist.
Currently I’m at a crossroads, as I’m sure we all are to one degree or another: “Should I do this, or that?” “What do you want from me?” “Why am I here?” And the likes …
I take great comfort in the Lord’s words before His teaching on how to pray: “.. for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” (Matthew 6:8) We put our trust in the omniscient God Almighty, who has every hair counted on our heads.
In some ways one can say: well then why, why pray? If he already knows …
There’s power in the act, in the actual DOING, that helps in confirming our position as a child of God. It’s a loving act that creates an open channel between us and Him, and therefore instills within us someone more “of God” as we walk amongst our peers in the world.
Lastly, it’s a surrender to His Will. Prayers are answered in His time and His way, according to His Will. How we envision them coming to pass will not inevitably be so, for “His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9) With that being said, in His generosity I know I’ve had my prayers heard — from the macro to the micro. Just last week St. Anthony helped me find my deodorant.
So it’s a faithful act - - trusting in His will for us and knowing He will create the most Good from it.
